Rules for Coffee Tables
Several online shopping sites give the same advice about coffee tables: The height should be the same as the seat height of your sofa and chairs, but no more than one to two inches lower. Since 18 inches is the standard seat heigh for upholstered pieces, 16 to 18 inches is typically the correct height for coffee tables. The length of the coffee table should be approximately two-thirds as long as your sofa. Since my sofa is 76 inches, I need a coffee table about 50 to 51 inches in length. Allow 12 to 18 inches of space between the coffee table and the seating around it and about 30 inches to other pieces of furniture such as media cabinets or bookshelves.
