At the front of the house off the foyer is a room that on the original plans was a formal dining room which was open to the great room. A formal dining area doesn't suit our style of entertaining so we walled the room off, separating it from the great room. We plan to use it as a small den for watching television in the evenings. Along one wall will be built-in cabinets because you can never have enough bookcases and storage space. It will also house Pete's big TV. The cabinet supplier and I went back and forth on the design more than a few times, but this is the end result. Den built-in elevation drawing. The drawers will hold our DVD library; personal collection I'm glad I'm not required to make a living as a draftsman!
We purchased these Cooper Upholstered Cubes from Ballard Designs for the sunroom in our Oakton house and had them reupholstered in a Gabrielle Chambray, a fabric exclusive to Ballard Designs that had been discontinued before I made the decision. I was lucky enough to find enough yardage on eBay. Reupholstered ottomons
I initially selected Y Decor's 1-Light Galvanized Finish Outdoor Wall Sconce from Home Depot as our exterior lights. At $36 each, the price was right. I ordered one as a sample and am so glad I did. Y Decor's 1-Light Galvanized Finish Outdoor Wall Sconce ; courtesy Home Depot It wasn't really galvanized; it was a fake finish and cheap looking as well. The lighting selected by our builder when pricing the contract was from Kichler Lighting. They went for a modern farmhouse look and used black or oil-rubbed bronze fixtures. We're going for a more coastal vibe and want to use shiny, reflective fixtures. But I thought it would be a good idea to stay with Kichler if at all possible. And it was. I chose their Northland sconces in brushed aluminum. Northland 1-Light Wall Light in Brushed Aluminum ; courtesy of Kichler Lighting
